Topic: Yellow Tabien Ban Posted: 04 Mar 10 at 09:35 |
I know different Amphurs have different requirements but to those of you who have acquired Yellow Tabien Ban , what documentation did you provide ? My wife tells me that our local Amphur requires a letter from the British Embassy ?

Probably the best place for that info is Thaivisa.com They even have a whole sub-section devoted to just that topic... http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Yellow-Tabien-Bahn-t156485.html

I managed to get a yellow tambien ban recently with the following: - Passport (which they copied at least 15 or 16 times)
- Statement from Immigration (you need a current photograph for immigration when you go to get it)
THEY DID NOT ASK FOR ANY EMBASSY LETTER OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT I was fortunate to have a young Thai guy help out. He was well "connected" as they say.. ..and we managed to get though all the hoops in about 5 hours..(which included the trip to immigration and a photo shop)....Be prepared to make a suitable "contribution" in the form of Tea money.. Without his help and the offering of suitable financial incentives....it can take quite a while to get it apparently. The most exasperating part of the exercise was the sheer volume of paper they generated. I can't imagine what they do with all the copies but I'm not exaggerating when I say they ended up with 15 or 16 copies of my passport.. plus multiple copies over all the other documents listed above. Maybe they just have an "arrangement" with the photocopy operator...who has to make a living too.. Anyway got the yellow book same day...

Can you be more specific about the "chanote", meaning the landlord's chanote, your girl's chanote, etc.
Also, apologies in advance for this personal question, but how much was the "suitable contribution"? Feel free not to answer...I'm not trying to be invasive, simply trying to weigh the expedited cost vs. non-expidited cost.

The chanote was my wife's (there is a usufruct agreement attached which grants me use and occupancy rights for life) The contribution was 2000 Thb. I may have been overly generous...you could probably get away with 1000.....but I'm like that, I often like to pay a bit extra so I don't feel too much guilt about all the "discounts" and special deals I get........ Oh and I bought the young guy who helped a very good dinner and a couple of beers....well worth it.

Hi,
When I got mine a few years back I needed a signed statement from a person considered of good character and acceptable status to support my application. He needed to be there in person to sign the supportive statement, that he knew me, considered me of good character, confirmed my address etc.
In my case my sponsor worked at the KK Airport Imm. section but other persons' would have been acceptable subject to acceptable status.
My wife owned the property (had been transferred to her by her Aunt when she went overseas for a few years). Due to cost it has never been transferred back, which was very useful for me as my Yellow Tabien Baan has always been accepted as proof of my address and never challenged by any of many places and Govt offices
so they needed (3 years ago): 1) Wife's Tabien Baan, 2) our marriage certificate 3) my wife's Land Title deed 4) The sponsor of good characters in person signed statement if support 5)My Passport (which for some reason they wanted translated into Thai. They suggested a translation service across the road who they were satisfied with as an approved translation
My wife and I recall had to complete one or two office forms. (long time ago so memory a little vague)
I queried why translation was needed as I had never had been requested for a translation of my British passport by any Thai authority before. I was informed each had their own requirements and this was the KK Amphur office's that was responsible for Yellow Tabien Baans (AT THAT TIME over 3 years ago I hasten to add so may have changed).
I think that at the end of the day it is best to visit in advance the Amphur office where you intend to apply and ask for exact requirements (which is exactly what we did). It saves a lot of time and frustration if requirements have recently changed

Totally agree...and have them write down the list. There was another guy trying to get a tambien ban same day we went there and they seemed to be asking him for more documents than I had to come up with. It seems to depend not only on the day....but the individual person(s) you deal with....kinda like immigration. Each of us will have our own tale to tell.....

I have:
1. Thai driver's license
2. Work permit
3. Social security/health card
4. Marriage certificate
What would be the benefit of getting the yellow tabien book? Any advantages that I'm not already afforded with my current documents?
