Good line there Madge.......In Pattaya people with all colors of shirts seem to fall from high balconies...or just show up in the surf......no politics involved..Ouch

Yesterday I watched a clip from Youtube of a red shirt demonstrator attacking an innocent man. He struck the man about the face with a large metal loud haler. The person sustained minor cuts to his face. Boy did he put up a good fight against this young thug, and he somehow managed to hold onto the scum-bag until the Police arrived. The Police rushed to the scene as though they were in slow motion, they eventually arrested the man before allowing him to show off his bravado to by-standers then escorted him to a Police vehicle (without the bracelets) Thumbs Down

If you watch the very first part of that video, you can see that it appears the "innocent man" throws something at the Red Shirted man in his truck...  Then he reacts and then goes after the "innocent man"...

I saw that video and many others on Thaivisa yesterday. The one Stormin mentioned is touted as "First victim of RedShirt violence".    Another one shows a couple of people with lists on clipboards handing out some cash to people--- I assumed those with their names on the list.   This was touted as "evidence" that Red's only protest for money"    Then there were articles claiming that the rally was a complete failure....before it had even started.  Needless to say there is the usual
torrent of abuse, insults, and total nonsense......with the occasional intelligent observation lost in the noise.   I have no idea why so many falang get so worked up over these events....from what I have seen they have been pretty tame compared to a good French farmer strike.... or an average football riot in UK or Europe......  Most of the "protest" seems to be stage shows with jokes, singing of songs...and  political speeches (a few bombastic ones but most not).  If a few hotheads get out of control and start throwing things or react to provocative behavior (like the guy in the video) then the whole outfit is branded as "terrorists"    What political movement---or trade union----or football club for that matter, does not have a few hotheads and trouble makers in their numbers?
I'm not taking sides here but what passes for journalism in certain news outlets here leaves a lot to be desired.  The falang (est in Bankok) seem to feed on this stuff and then regurgitate it on Thaivisa.  Their minds are made up --they don't need evidence or proof....if The Nation said it....damn it must be true...Confused.....and if there is a 15 sec video with a person in a red T-shirt doing something naughty.....well..say no more!!!   Not much room for original thought or objective opinion it seems...Ouch   I think all of us would like to see this whole thing go off without a hitch....no violence...no trouble...but with a measure of success just to show that it can be done.  I doubt if the reds can bring down the government. The odds are against them---not to mention 40 or 50 thousand troops and police and a population in Bankok that is likely pi**ed off at the inconvenience caused by their rally.   There must be a better way to run a country....Confused

I have just had a phone call from my friend who is BKK airport as I write this and he had no problems either there or getting there, A few extra police about but no sign of protesters.
It seems according to my wife's family in Isaan that a few people accepted the 2000 baht to get on the bus and a further 2000B when they got off and then caught the next bus back to KK. Good skills I say.
Let's hope it remains peaceful as at this stage it appears a big fizzer particularly with some of the leaders and Thaksin's family heading for the brighter lights of Europe or wherever

Vicco,
You are quite correct in what you write. It's the same old song  "Bad news sells best".

We were in Bangkok right when it all kicked off. The worst that we saw was a slight traffic jam while the convoy moved from one point to another. It looked like a parade. People were honking their horns and waving. Smiles all round.

I guess the novelty may have worn off by now..
