Background checks only weed out pedophiles who have been arrested.  They obviously do not weed out the ones who have been clever enough to avoid detection, unfortunately.

True, background checks do not detect the smartest pedophile who has never been arrested. But checks do detect some criminals who fled their country to Thailand in hopes that nobody will know of their past. Many pedos come to 3rd world countries to "teach" , not for the money, but to continue their pedophiliac ways. Pedos like countries like Thailand where there is great shame to the victim if she/he ever told anyone f their sexual abuse.

Hey look..it's not only foreigners that could be pedophiles..there are local pedophiles that exist right here in Thailand...so what do you do???...I think as a parent you just have to not take anything for granted...be alittle more aware of the possibility that these things are out there and do what you need to do assure your child is safe and your fears are minimized

Back to the original question about teacher requirements and Mataneedol, it is scandalous that the director of the English teachers at Mataneedol has never seen the inside of a college classroom. Think about that before you send your kids there.

First of all - what is scandalous about that?  Second of all - what is your proof and your sources of information?  You MAY very well be correct.  I am not questioning that.  What is wrong, however, is to make such statements on an open forum without providing any substance.  Not very cool...There are also many satisfied parents whose children attend there.  In addition - there are others who would even argue that simply stepping foot inside a college classroom does NOT qualify you to be a director - so you should think about that before making such statements...

The scandal involves the fact that a teaching license requires a certain level of education. If parents are satisfied with unqualified teachers, fine.  Good luck when the time comes to attend a real school.

What brought this up now?  This thread has been inactive for 2 years.

Parents can be satisfied for any number of reasons not having to do with how well their children are being taught.

Once again you have provided no substantive proof of your claims. Simply put that is heresy and has no place on an open forum such as this. Do you wish to offer proof or retract your claim?

Hard to prove a negative but it does have a very valid place on a forum which advertises and discusses schools. The poster has thrown down the gauntlet and its now up to people to make their own minds up.

Of course the director and school can prove that the allegations are false and the poster can be totally discredited and even sued for libel and anybody that has doubts about the school, their minds be put to rest. Or the allegations can be ignored.
Just had a look at the website and there is no mention of teachers and their qualifications / backgrounds.

I agree that great qualifications don't necessarily make great teachers but the poster isn't saying that and agree that parents maybe happy with the standard of teaching their kids are receiving but how can too much info be a bad thing when it comes to making decisions about your children.

P.S. I have known loads of foreign teachers here in Khon Kaen and if somebody were to ever ask me
" how many foreign teachers have you met in Khon Kaen that you think are legally qualified for the job? " my answer would be about 35-40%.

Mataneedol School is probably the best school in the world, not just in Khon Kaen!Clap
I often get asked about teachers' qualifications. Picture this scenario: Two people turn up for a teaching job,
one, a young unqualified man or woman who yearns for a chance to do something with their life, and number two, older but very qualified and experienced, yet sadly only here for a partner 20 years younger and to go out every evening, one who washes down two packs of cigarettes with a skin-full of alcohol and takes their bad moods out on students. There are basically two kinds of foreign teachers here; those who want to work and those who want to keep themselves here, both kinds can be easily identified. Khon Kaen isn't exactly attractive to teachers at Oxford and any school that tells you all of their staff are properly qualified aren't being honest with you. At Mataneedol we won't just smile and take your money, we are here to give students what other schools aren't providing. All are very welcome to come in any weekday and talk with me about what exactly it is that makes us that little bit better than the rest.
The internet has made it possible for anyone, with the right dedication, to find help with their quest to become the best teacher they can be; where there's a will there is a way, and these days the way has been simplified with modern technology.
And as far as employing pedophiles goes, I'm in touch with American authorities and they help us with anyone we're sceptical about, and not just teachers!
It's all just a question of good management (if you know of one please let me know)!
