BANGKOK: An elderly British man and his Thai wife were beaten to death in a suspected robbery at a beach resort in Thailand, police said Wednesday. A worker at the resort in Thap Sakae district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, 280 kilometres (180 miles) south of Bangkok, found the badly beaten bodies of Michael Raymond, 68 and Suchada Baokhamdee, 52, Tuesday afternoon in their beach front bungalow. "They were beaten with a chair and other hard objects," case officer Captain Winai Raila-aied told AFP by telephone. The couple had checked in at the resort on the Gulf of Thailand a day earlier. Police have begun questioning possible suspects who live nearby and are waiting for relatives of the couple to check what belongings are missing. Winai said Raymond had lived in the northeastern Thai province of Khon Kean for two years since he got married. Source: CNA

PHUKET: A British expat resident and his Thai wife were brutally murdered at a small Thai tourist resort for 200 baht and a mobile telephone, police said today. Officers arrested the security guard, a chef and a local fisherman over the killing of Michael Raymond, 68, and his wife Suchada Bonkamdi, 52, early yesterday morning. The fisherman told police that he heard noise coming from the couple's bungalow at the tiny resort in Prachuap Khiri Khan, south of Bangkok. He thought the couple must be making love and did not sound the alarm. A maid went to the room yesterday at 3.30pm after the couple failed to appear. The body of Mr Raymond, dressed only in brown shorts, was found near a sofa with his face and head savagely beaten. His wife, dressed only in a pink top, was found with similar wounds near the refrigerator. Police believe the killers wanted cash but the couple only had 200 baht and a mobile telephone. The security guard and the cook have confessed but the fisherman denies involvement, officers said today. A spokesperson for the Jack Beach Resort told Phuketwan today: ''We are shocked and horrified. ''This has always been a safe place. We have often left doors open, without fear of robbery. Now we will have to reassess the casual holiday way.'' The 17-bungalow resort on the Gulf of Thailand has been open for seven years. The dead couple married about two years ago and had been living at Khon Kaen, not far from Bangkok, police believe. They had checked in just for the one night, the spokesperson said. Police named the confessed killers as security guard Pongpitak Tapsawang, 29, and cook Prajak Maunjinka, 50. Fisherman Jakkarin Auyen, 30, so far denies involvement. I always think Thailand is scary when I read these reports which is one reason why I always feel you should disguise your wealth in this country. Never give anyone the impression you have any money.
I guess the same applies across the world.

Couple from Khon Kaen beaten to death inside resortPolice have detained three Thai men for allegedly robbing and
fatally beating a British man and his Thai wife in Prachuap Khiri Khan’s
Thap Sakae district yesterday.
According to the police, two of the detainees, Pongpitak Tapsawang,
29, and Prachak Muenjinda, 50, have confessed to robbing and murdering
Michael Raymond, 68, and Suchada Baokhamdee, 52, at the Jack Beach
Resort.
The suspects worked at the resort as security guard and cook respectively.
Though the third suspect, Jakkarin Yuyen, 30, denied the charges,
police believe he had visited the resort to borrow money from Prachak
before they decided to rob the couple.
The victims’ badly beaten bodies were found in the couple’s bungalow on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said it looked like the two had succumbed to their injuries
and that their room was ransacked. The suspects confessed to taking
Bt2,000, a mobile phone and an ATM card.
According to initial investigation, the couple had checked in on
Monday. Raymond and Suchada had been married for two years and were
living in Khon Kaen.
Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Veera Sriwattanatrakul said the gruesome
murder badly tarnished the province’s reputation and its tourism
business, adding that resorts should be equipped with security cameras
to ensure the safety of guests as well as help police in the case of
crimes.
Meanwhile, Thawatchai Daengchum, president of Huay Yang Tambon
Administrative Organisation, said the crime was shocking, especially
since the beach area, which is home to several resorts, is popular for
its serenity. http://isaannews.com/couple-from-khon-kaen-beaten-to-death-inside-resort/

Good help is so hard to find these days! The killers must have been smoking yaaba. Even if they had no inhibition about robbing and killing--which they obviously didn't--what could posses them to think they could possibly get away with this? I'd like to know the whole story. XeReX

Everything about this case so far would seem to suggest that it was a classic case of two people just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. They had just checked into the place so they did not have much time to flash money around. They did not have much money with them anyway. Original news says 200 Thb...latest says 2000 Thb. They were in an area where crime (at least this kind of thing) is rare. Whatever the motivation was to commit such an act is not clear yet. The three accused are not exactly Mafia hit-man quality. They left a trail that took the BIB about 15 minutes to follow back to them...and quickly confessed when arrested. Surely it much be another case of drug/alcohol fueled craziness. Can't imagine what else could explain such a thing. What is of real concern is how widespread this yabba/alcohol use has become and how it can just materalize in the most unlikely of places. How can anyone be safe anywhere with this sh*t running out of control all over the country? A certain ex-PM currently enjoying his well appointed villa in Dubai was castigated and reviled for his attempts to stamp out this vile trade......by all those self appointed experts and enlightened ones who actually seemed to believe that it would all just go away if you ignored it. I hope he continues to ram it down their enlightened throats at every opportunity.

"Good help is so hard to find these days!"
I hope that wasn't an attempt at humor.
Condolences to the family and friends of the couple. A horribly sad event. Terry
