Topic: Fishing: Posted: 27 Mar 12 at 17:44 |
Hi, At the rear of our house is a beautiful small lake which apparently is packed with fish of all sizes. It is rarely fished. I wish to take up this fantastic sport. I did it when I was a kid.I will use the float and tackle method. My question is:What baits can be used?

Live baiting best if you can stomach it. You got access to earthworms? If so, use hooks with a barb on the shank. Insert the point of a hook into the worm just in front of its saddle (the raised thick band about one-third along the worm) and carefully thread as much of the worm as you can onto the hook and over the barb before the point emerges - not for the squeamish - the worm will wriggle furiously. Good fishing Peter

I generally used a basic bread mix that I used to buy from the bait shops around the lake, however any meat/prawn etc on a hook will attract the big boys.
Hooked a 17kg Carp down here in Hua Hin using a bread mix and float.
Happy hunting.

Thanks Steve for your valid info: I have just been there an hour or so earlier, and seen a young Thai boy fishing with bread mix and banana I didn't stay around too long. The float that he was using, perched like a main-sail from a schooner above the water. It was blowing around like a piece of paper in a gusty wind, yet there wasn't any wind!
