Is your thingy like the Ion Tape Express by any chance?
The USB connector would make a big difference. Actually getting a signal using the line-in ports on the sound card and adjusting the sound levels is fussy. That is what I did last time, it was a pain in the ass, and the results were only barely adequate.
Only $7 or $8 per cassette, which is quite reasonable, but the logistics and cost of shipping cassettes back & forth is risky and problematic.

That's the unit.... My only complaint with the unit was the having to listen in to make sure you caught the end of the side for turning the tape over for side two... Never had a problem adjusting the volume levels after the first song of each tape, which I would adjust and then rerecord the first song after just a few moments of it for adjustments... Plus $7 to $8 per tape made my 40+ tapes, plus shipping, way more than I wanted to spend on my project...
Based upon your comments, I will offer it to the next person who asked about it... Sorry you feel that it would not work for your purposes, but I can understand...

Thanks a million! I may take you up on your kind offer. However, first I think I will wander around Tukcom and see if I can find someone to do it for me. I know it isn't hard, but it is fussy and time-consuming. All together, I may have as many as 20 cassettes. That is a fairly big project. Not everything is wonderful about digital. I remember the old days when you wanted to make copies of cassettes (cassette-to-cassette), any decent dual cassette player could do automatically in high-speed.

I wish you good luck.... I had 40+ Cassettes, everything from just Old Groups / Albums that I enjoyed, to some of my own, original, stuff from "Back in the Day" so to speak... I could not find anyone either in Kalasin nor Khon Kaen that would even consider doing it... Researched and found this unit in the States, had it purchased and brought over to me by a friend, then spent several weeks doing tapes, one by one at original speed... Fairly big project, but then again I am retired and have lots of time on my hands... Ya, Right.... Although time consuming, it was frailly enjoyable and I was thrilled with the end product...
Someone else has expressed interest in the unit and I told him that since I had offered to you first, that I would wait until I knew your response, but either way, it would be free as long as you continue to pass it along for someone else to use for free once you have completed your project.. I have done this before with some other items, and find it very gratifying when you hear that anywhere from a few to many people benefit from what I would just set on a shelf and let go to waste...
Anyway, let me know once you get a chance to check around for a commercial service in the area...

I have a small tape player from the States that I had sent over about 4 months ago for converting all of my old cassettes (Mostly Music) to MP3, then on to CD's for listening in my truck... Comes with the connections, software and all... Worked really good, easy and quality seems excellent... I lent it to a freind here in Kalasin who is transfering some Language Tapes, but he should be finished with them now or at least soon...
It cost about $50 US, but I have gotten my value out the thing... If you would like it, and promise to pass it along to whomever could use it and would commit to the same, I would donate it to the cause...

I can do this myself, but as it has to be done in real time, it is a very lengthy process, and getting all the settings right is more fussy that I want to deal with.
