I just read in the Khon Kaen Gazette. What do we know about it?

Khon Kaen Expatriates Association

The first meeting of the executive committee of the newly formed Khon Kaen Expatriates Association was held on Thursday night.   Attending were Professor Mario Barblan (Switzerland), Michael Brookes (New Zealand), Dirk de Koker (Belgium), Josh Macknick (USA), Ole Nielsen (Denmark) and David Ouedec (France). Dr John Keay (Australia) and Professor Robert Mills (UK) were unable to attend through absence abroad. Included on the agenda were arrangements for extending the representation of the executive committee to expatriates of other countries

Governor His Excellency Somsak Suwansujarit chairs a meeting with the executive committee of the Khon Kaen Expatriates Association

The embryonic association of Khon Kaen expatriates took a further step to maturity when Governor Somsak addressed the executive committee last night at the Pullman Hotel. In his speech the governor stressed the important role of the expatriate community in civic development. He placed particular emphasis on the role that English-speaking expatriates could play in helping Khon Kaen prepare for full implementation of the ASEAN initiative. An important result of the meeting was agreement to nominate officials to provide ongoing liaison with the executive committee on behalf of local government and the city's business community. The incoming secretary of the association, Dr John F Smith of New Zealand, stated after the meeting that the executive committee was now in a position to finalize the association's articles. Public meetings would commence thereafter and all English-speaking expatriates in Khon Kaen would be eligible for membership. The appointment and re-appointment of members to the executive committee would be subject to standard election procedures.

I guess these gentlemen don't know there is a Khon Kaen Forum that reaches at least a certain segment of the falang expat community in Khon Kaen  and Isaan-wide.  Good gawd, we got the primo domain name; khonkaen.com , back in the days when no one wanted it.

Sigh!

I tried to send an email to the address shown (info@ xxxxxxxxx.com

Email came back and said there would be a long delay if and before this can be delivered.  I asked them if they knew there already was an expat forum in KKC.  They act as if they just discovered KKC with no visibleconnection to the expat community.

By the way, Rex, when is your meeting scheduled with the Governor/Mayor of KKC? Will you take along your Executive Committee?

It seems a bit odd having an "Expat Association" than no expats seem to know anything about except for the "executive committee".    Did these guys just have a little get together somewhere and elect themselves or what?   You would think one of the first priorities of a proposed expat association would be to find some associates other than the self appointed committee... and try to find out if there is even support for such a organization...Confused..

I hope there is support and it would be good if the expat community had some kind of representation that might be able to convince the authorities that we are not all here just for the whores and warm weather;  but I do wonder who started this and how it reached the executive committee stage with more secrecy than the US secret service can manage these days.......maybe we should check with Wikileaks??
